Te Anau
The Kepler track is a loop out from Te Anau. The first day involves a water taxi across the lake and a day of climbing the mountains opposite the town to the first hut. Our plan was to stay one night at the first hut then walk back down but illness prevented it so instead we took the water taxi, walked uphill for an hour then double backed around the lake.
Pest traps
You can see the egg placed as bait inside this pest trap for stoats / rats. Great Walks tend to have these at every 100m or so, maintained by the DOC wardens.
Lakeside path
We met a group of German kids waking through with a ghetto blaster….I mean seriously?
The path opens out beyond the edge of the forest
The following day we returned to this track on hired bikes.
